Volunteers and Young Leaders League
Highlights: Volunteers and Youth Mentors Meet the ILF Ghana Executive Director
Volunteers of the Young Leaders League (Y2L) and Youth Mentors from different regions of Ghana met online with Mr Percy Amoo-Yankey, Executive Director of ILF Ghana, on Friday, 25 September 2026. Each participant introduced themselves and shared the schools and communities where they volunteer.
Jonas Selby welcomed participants and opened the meeting in prayer. Mr Stephen Adu-Amoani, Executive Director, ILF Africa and the Caribbean, shared a brief message. He reminded participants that leadership needs both speed and direction, and that mentors carry the responsibility of guiding young people well.
The vision for ILF Ghana
Mr Amoo-Yankey thanked volunteers for their service. He set out his vision for ILF Ghana to become a national centre of excellence for leadership development, building a leadership pipeline across every level of society. Volunteers, he said, are not simply helping ILF: they are building Ghana’s future leadership pipeline.
Five roles of an ILF volunteer
- Represent ILF in every school and community.
- Develop students in character, responsibility and integrity.
- Mentor them with care and consistency.
- Capture evidence of their progress.
- Multiply impact by inspiring students to lead others.
Seven expectations
- Integrity in conduct and in every report.
- Reliability in sessions and commitments.
- Preparation for every session.
- Fidelity to ILF programmes and values.
- Active student engagement, not lectures.
- Evidence-based reporting.
- Professional boundaries and the safeguarding of students.
Looking ahead
ILF Ghana plans to grow its reach to 50 institutions across eight regions of Ghana by August 2027. To support volunteers through this growth, the team will improve volunteer orientation and onboarding; strengthen programme materials, mentoring, supervision and facilitator development; introduce a standard framework for reporting and evidence; develop pathways for volunteers to grow into roles such as regional coordinators or facilitators; and explore a volunteer recognition programme.
